ESTABLISHMENT OF BUSINESS INCLUSION PROJECT IN MULTI-ETHNIC COMMUNITIES
Project Duration: June 2014 – April 2016
Target Regions: Polog and North-East Region, Republic of Macedonia
BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE PROJECT
The activities are focused on establishing start-up businesses in two rural multi-ethnic regions in the Republic of Macedonia – Polog and North-East regions. The overall aim is to improve the business practices among the target groups in both regions, and providing long-term solutions for sustainable business growth and development. The project consists of two project components: a Field-Oriented Component and an Institutional Building Component.
This component is an action oriented program that should identify a range of business ideas and informal economic initiatives among the target groups in the two regions, and should provide a package of services to the project’s beneficiaries.
The range of services include:
- elaboration of a business idea into a business plan;
- support for products and services marketing;
- assistance in developing new products and services;
- support for accessing local, regional and national markets.
The same component should also provide assistance in developing financial plans for start-up and business endurance in the first 3-5 years of business. A wide range of strategic resources will be provided for the early stage business opportunities to be successful including: incubation, strategic business advice and mentorship, micro-financing, industry associated support etc. This entire support should lead towards formal registration of businesses owned by young people and women, and should provide a solid base for meaningful employment in rural areas.
INSTITUTIONAL BUILDING COMPONENT
The second component of the project should in fact consolidate on the existing support for start-up businesses provided by national institutions. In this regard, the project will review the existing business support measures and mechanisms developed by national institutions to overcome poverty and increase employment in the country. Particular attention will be paid to the absorption of business support measures and mechanisms by the population in rural areas. Presentations of measures and debates will be organised in order to disseminate the information about the existing measures in rural areas, along with detailed information about the applied procedures, administrative requirements and documentation necessary for obtaining the support measures. Furthermore, the project will look into the possible bottlenecks and constraints that people in rural areas are faced with when trying to access the existing measures. The project will then analyse and summarise on actual constraints in an appropriate feedback provided to the national institutions. In order to achieve it, the project will cooperate and create partnerships with local and regional business institutions and services providers, and will jointly review certain recommendations and solutions that should facilitate sustainable business development in rural areas.
